More than 23 years after making his professional debut, Siyabonga Nomvethe is still inspiring his peers.

Still active at the age of 42, turning out for KZN-based GladAfrica Championship side Uthongathi FC, ‘Bhele’ has inspired his former Moroka Swallows teammate Bennet Chenene to prolong his career.

The former Orlando Pirates winger, now 36, recently returned to top-flight football with Ivorian side Williamsville Athletic, and says he still has a few years in the tank.

“I am coming for Nomvethe! I can’t be talking about retirement when Nomvethe is still playing,” Chenene told Soccer Laduma.

“I mean, he is beyond 40 and I am 36. He is my target for motivation for the two years of professional football that I still have in me. Let’s see how it goes, but like I say, I don’t think I will be quitting anytime soon, not when Nomvethe is still playing.”
