Sibaya: SAFA decision long overdue

MacBeth Sibaya says SAFA’s decision to rope in former national team players to work inside the organisation is refreshing, but also long overdue.

The country’s football governing body announced late last month that the likes of Lucas Radebe and David Nyathi have been placed on the technical committee, while Brian Baloyi and Fabian McCarthy will serve on the media and marketing side.

At the time of the announcement, Baloyi told KickOff.com that he knew nothing about the position and that he had not been contacted by anyone.

Be that as it may, former Bafana Bafana midfielder Sibaya believes getting former national team stars involved in the SAFA structures is a step in the right direction.

“It’s refreshing and a well-thought-out decision by SAFA because the players appointed were not just given because they played the game,” he told KickOff.com.

“It's been long overdue for people like Lucas Radebe, who has been deserving to be part of the organisation.”

Other prominent additions to the structures include Boebie Solomons, Farouk Khan and Sudesh Singh.
