Phiri recovering at home after shooting incident

Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Maimane Phiri is recovering at home after being shot twice towards the end of last year.

The 47-year-old, who played for the likes of Moroka Swallows, Ajax Cape Town and SuperSport United after eight successful years in Turkey, was hit in the hand and leg after an argument at his pub in Alexandria turned violent.

Two other people died during the incident while the alleged perpetrator remains under police guard.

Phiri was part of the Bafana Bafana squad that competed at the 1998 World Cup in France, and is the founder of the hugely popular Maimane Alfred Phiri games in Alexandria.
