Orlando Pirates legend Jerry Sikhosana has purchased an ABC Motsepe League club with the hope of taking it all the way to the top.
‘Legs of Thunder’, who started at Giant Blackpool and made his name at Witbank Aces, has taken over Blue Lions, who campaign in Gauteng.
He took ownership from former Benoni Premier United boss Dumisani Ndlovu, whose family facilitated the deal as they could no longer keep the club operational following Ndlovu's passing.
Sikhosana says he has grand plans for the club - after the small matter of saving them from relegation.
“We are trying to avoid relegation for now and just save the status, and then we’ll start the team from scratch,” he is quoted as saying by FarPost. “They were struggling a bit but at least now I’ve roped in some of the young boys that I trust and with five games left I hope I can save the team from relegation.”
Sikhosana was part of the Pirates team that won the African Champions Cup in 1995, scoring the decisive goal in the second leg against ASEC Mimosas, and also won 10 caps for Bafana Bafana.
