In June 1999, South Africa's Under-23 team started their journey to the 2000 Olympics in Sydney with a tough qualifier away to Togo.

Shakes Mashaba's AmaGlug-glug eventually defied the odds to reach the Games, famously beating a Ronaldinho-led Brazil in the group stages, but it almost came unstuck before it even began in Lome, where the visitors twice trailed.

However, a deflected Daniel Matsau strike and comical own-goal ensured a share of the spoils, and the Class of 2000 party was underway ...
