Carnell takes over as New York Red Bulls coach

Former Bafana Bafana left-back Bradley Carnell has been named interim head coach of Major League Soccer giants New York Red Bulls.

The 43-year-old replaces coach Chris Armas, who was sacked on Friday. His first game in charge will be against Philadelphia Union at Red Bull Arena later today.

Carnell made his name as a marauding left-back for Wits University, Kaizer Chiefs, VfB Stuttgart, Borussia Monchengladbach, Karlsruher SC and Hansa Rostock, and also made 40 appearances for the national team.

He took over as Red Bulls assistant coach in March 2017, having previously served in the capacity at Orlando Pirates.
