Buckley named Arminia Bielefeld ambassador


German club Arminia Bielefeld has appointed Delron Buckley as its first ever club ambassador.


In his new role, the former Bafana Bafana winger will help to promote the club’s name, traditions and values throughout South Africa.


Buckley scored 15 goals in 29 appearances as a Bielefeld player in the 2004/05 season, as well as 10 goals in 73 games for his country.


Bielefeld has been working successfully in South Africa since 2021. In addition to various training sessions and coaching clinics with numerous participants and many different CSR activities, various corporations such Maritzburg United have also contributed to the successful and sustainable work .


“We are delighted to announce Delron as our first ever club ambassador,” Bielefeld CEO Christoph Wortmann said. “Delron is well known for his spirit in our club and his outstanding performance during his time in Bielefeld.


“Our engagement and activities in South Africa have developed outstandingly and we are proud to be able to take the next step with Delron after cooperations with Maritzburg United and the Southern African-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry.”


Buckley is excited about his new role, saying: “I am very happy to return to Arminia as a club ambassador. I can't wait to represent DSC Arminia Bielefeld in different activities all over my home country and helping to spread the Arminia brand. It’s a huge honour for me and makes me very proud to support the club where I had a fantastic time.”
